Sixth Former Arthur has continued his hunt for international selection for the GB kayaking sprint squad
Arthur, who last year raced for the GB Development Squad in marathon kayak races, is now hoping for international selection in sprint racing as a member of the Central Super Regional Sprint Squad.
He will race at the Open Flemish Championships in Neerpelt, Belgium in August, and is hoping to get selected for the Olympic Hopes Regatta in Hungary in September. However, as well as trying to juggle AS exams and a shoulder injury, he has to miss the official selection regatta for that team, as it clashes with his DoE Gold expedition. The selectors agreed to consider his time from the June national regatta instead, where he recorded personal bests in all three distances. He won’t know if he has made the Olympic Hopes team until later in the summer though.
He also had a successful day at the recent Marlow Canoe Regatta, winning all his races in the Junior Boys K1 and K2 categories, and was the first junior home (and second overall), in the Open 3k race.
This weekend he will be attending a combined training camp for both Super Regional Squads and the England National Talent Squad. Best of luck to Arthur as his campaign for international selection continues and we will keep our community up-to-date with any developments.
