Four members of the Bloxham community were instrumental in the Banbury 2nd XI’s national hockey plate victory

Two members of Bloxham staff and OBs Jonny Stirrup and Nick Best were fundamental in helping Banbury Hockey’s 2nd XI to victory in the National Plate competition at the beginning of May.

The Banbury Hockey 2nd XI endured a very early rise as they travelled down to London to compete in the final of the National Hockey Plate competition, hosted at the Olympic Stadium. It was an incredibly tight match against Bedford, which saw the Banbury side go down 3-0 after just 30 minutes. However, with goals from staff members Matt Bull and Dave Clark (2), Banbury edged their way back into the game, succeeding in bringing the nail-biting match to a close with a 3-3 draw. This tie meant that the teams faced off in a penalty shootout, where Dave Clark took the winning penalty to seal Banbury’s 2-0 victory.

OB Nick was Match Manager on the day and is looking forward to being the 2nd XI’s skipper next year.
