Bloxham School’s 1st VII rugby squad put in a great performance at this week’s Rosslyn Park Sevens competition

Bloxham’s 1st VII played some excellent sevens at Rosslyn Park this week but came up short in terms of progressing further, going unbeaten until losing their last game to a well-drilled Dulwich College side. Earlier, the boys had despatched Wirral Grammar School (22-5), Cirencester College (43-0) and Wimbledon College (31-17), with G. Cassell running in some spectacular tries and G. Grieve finishing the day as top points scorer.

Bloxham scored early on in the decider with a try from G. Barbeary but Dulwich produced some fine sevens and, with captain J. Briggs picking up a nasty ankle injury, the Bloxham side slipped to a 40 points to 10 defeat, sending the team home. Given the side’s minimal preparation and lack of warm-up tournaments due to their long run in the NatWest Vase competition, three wins out of four was not a bad return and the boys could not be faulted for their efforts.

Thanks to all those parents who turned up to support, to Doc Haynes for his medical expertise, and to Mr Goldsmith for coaching the side and driving them there and back through horrendous traffic both ways!
