Bloxham School A Level Music students enjoyed a visit to the Royal College of Music yesterday

Thank you to Bloxham School’s George for his report of the A Level musicians’ trip to the Royal College of Music:

On Wednesday 20th‘January, Bloxham A Level Music students visited the Royal College of Music, London, to see the working environment of one of the world’s most prestigious conservatoires. Upon arrival at the College, music was pouring out from its windows with famous orchestral pieces and solos being heard from every corner of the building. We first attended a lunchtime concert by first year postgrads, who were performing Mendelssohn’s famous Octet and, within the first five seconds, all of us were in shock! The standard of the performances and the abilities of all the young musicians playing reflected very closely the professional soloists playing in the Royal Albert Hall opposite. After the concert, we were given a detailed tour of the conservatoire ‘ experiencing a brief insight into their environment. We were even lucky enough to see a Royal College of Music Symphony Orchestra rehearsal of “From the Wreckage”, a trumpet concerto written by a professor at ‘the RCM, Mark Anthony-Turnage. We then spent time with an RCM student and were able to ask lots of questions about the student life there, opportunities available and other important aspects.

All in all, an incredible inspiration!
