Kayaking plays a big role in the Urquhart family, with each of the children recently achieving success at a national event

Back in August, Jessie, George and Arthur Urquhart each represented their club, the Banbury and District Canoe Club, at the 2015 National Marathon Kayak Championships in Norwich. Second Former Jessie came away with two national titles, winning both the U12 girls K1 (singles) and K2 (doubles) races. Her brothers, both in Seymour, also raced with George finishing 20th nationally in the boys’ U14 K1 and 10th in U14 K2.

Possibly the best result, however, came with Arthur, who finished in fourth place in his highly competitive U16 boys’ K1 race. ‘Arthur’s success has now seen him be selected to take part in the French National Marathon Championships later this month as part of the British Canoeing Marathon Committee Junior Development Programme. He is one of only six boys to have been selected, four of whom are actually U16, but who will be racing in the U18 category for greater experience. Arthur will compete in two races over the weekend K1 and K2, with both being over 12.5 miles. This is the second time this year that Arthur has been chosen to compete internationally as part of this programme. We wish Arthur luck as he prepares for this hugely prestigious event on 26th and 27th September!
