Bloxham’s Drama Department has staged a variety of performances so far this term, including public exam pieces, an Exham House LAMDA performance and live improvisation by Fourth Form at Founderstide.
The Summer Term has seen every student in Exham House undertake a Group Devised LAMDA examination. Alongside this, GCSE and AS Level students excelled in their examination performances. The programme was complete by brave Fourth Form performances in a ‘Live Improvisation Drama’ event on Founderstide.
AS Drama students recently performed “Heritage”, a blistering black comedy that explores the darker side of nationalism, by Dafydd James. Set on May Day, a group of misfit children are specially chosen to close the day’s festivities; but as they gather together in uniform, it soon becomes clear that they have been chosen for a far darker purpose. The varied characterisation and electric pace made for a truly compelling and, at times, disturbing piece.

Meanwhile, Bloxham’s first ever cohort of GCSE Drama students devised their own piece entitled “Facebook Official”. Exploring our online persona, the permanency of online actions and how they can come back to haunt you. A poignant piece performed with real maturity, it was so prescient that the students were asked to perform it to the Third Formers as part of their PSHE programme around e-safety.
