New Beginnings and First Impressions

What motivated you to join Bloxham’s Sixth Form?

The opportunities that it opens up, but also the School’s consistent A Level results. Lots of my friends told also told me that it was a really good school, so I was very keen to join myself.

How has your experience been so far since joining in September?

I’ve settled in really nicely, and I already like all of the courses that I chose. Everyone has been really welcoming and the teachers’ support has been great.

What were your first impressions of the school and its community?

Everyone’s really nice and friendly. I also like how pretty the school is—it’s always really clean, and it feels peaceful.

How did you find the process of settling in and making new friends?

I already knew a few people before I came here, so I started by speaking to them and hanging out with them, which really helped. After that, it was easy to meet new people—everyone here is so friendly and welcoming that it doesn’t take long to feel like you belong. The smaller class sizes also make it easier to get to know people too.

What subjects are you studying, and why did you choose them?

I’m studying Business, English Literature, and Psychology. I chose them because I’m really interested in all of those areas, and they’re subjects that I’ve enjoyed in the past. I did English Literature at GCSE and loved it. I also did Sociology at GCSE, which is quite similar to Psychology, and I found it really fascinating. Business is something I’ve always been drawn to and will hopefully go onto studying further.

Have you discovered any new interests or hobbies since joining Bloxham?

I haven’t discovered anything completely new, but I’ve definitely improved my cooking skills since joining. I do cooking as part of the Service programme and also as a club, and it’s been a lot of fun.

What kind of support have you received from your teachers and fellow students?

One thing I’ve found really helpful is the drop-in sessions—those are completely new to me because we didn’t have them at my previous school. Whenever I’m stuck on something or need to catch up because I’ve been off, the teachers are always happy to help. It’s really reassuring to know that they’re so understanding and genuinely want to help me succeed.

What do you enjoy most about being at Bloxham?

My friends, definitely. I also really like the courses. Oh, and the lunches are amazing! It’s definitely a highlight of the day for a lot of us.

What advice would you give to another student thinking about joining Bloxham?

I’d say if you know anyone who already goes here, try reaching out to them before you join—it makes such a difference to have people you can talk to right away. Even if you don’t know anyone, though, don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and start conversations. Everyone here is really friendly, so it’s not as intimidating as it might seem. Just be open to meeting new people, and you’ll settle in much faster.
