Congratulations to Bloxham’s 1st XI girls team, who were crowned county champions after a phenomenal performance at yesterday’s tournament
Thank you to team captain Paige Davis for providing the report below on what was a huge achievement and great show of determination and skill by our girls.’
The 1st XI girls’ hockey team travelled to the county tournament, hoping to bring back the trophy once again and to win for the second year in a row.
They had two pool games of 20 minutes each way. The first game was against Headington. Goals came thick and fast from Louisa, Lyndsey, Annabel, Charlotte and Molly in open play and Kate Davies got a beautiful deflection on a short corner.
In the following match the girls faced Tudor Hall, our local rivals. After a slower start, Tudor were able to score from a short corner. Bloxham retaliated well though with two goals in quick succession from deflections by Charlotte and Molly from the same efficient short corner routine.
Then into the semi finals. The girls faced Oxford High next and tensions were high as the team battled to reach the final. After a strong start and good pressing, as well as great keeping from Abbie Oram, Bloxham came out 4-0 winners. Some great goals came from Pia Davies, Kate Davies (even running into the post to score, showing hardcore determination!) and two for Lyndsey White.
This meant Bloxham were facing St Edward’s in the final – a repetition of past years where the teams have clashed in the final. After 20 minutes of great play the score was still 0-0 and this meant there was extra time of seven minutes either way. There was still no winner after extra time, so it was down to flicks to decide 2014-15’s champion! Lyndsey White, Annabel Gulliver, Louisa Heathcote, Paige Davis and Harriet Boland stepped up to take the flicks. The final score was 4-3 to Bloxham, with particular thanks to Lauren Thomas for some fantastic saves.
The girls were delighted to be crowned County Champions for the second year running and are looking forward to the regional stage of the competition which is being hosted here in November.
Special thanks to staff Mr Hobley, Miss Odlin and Steve for coming along and making the win possible!
